The Institution of Engineers (India)

On February 10th, 2020, the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Vadapalani inaugurated the IEI Student Chapter. The Institution of Engineers (India) is a statutory body to promote and advance engineering and technology, established in 1920 and incorporated in 1935. It has completed hundred years since its establishment, in 2020. The event was given a positive start by the recital of ‘Tamil thai vazhthu’. Further, Dr. Shirly Edwards gave the welcome address by introducing IEI to all the students. Indian tradition was also upheld by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Later on, Dr. C. Gomathy, the head of the department addressed the gathering with her wise words. It was followed by the presidential address of The Dean (E&T), Dr. K. Duraivelu. He discussed the privileges of having a multidisciplinary course and urged the students to equip themselves with skills from various departments. Chief guest, Er. R. Ramdoss listed the various privileges that a student could experience, being an IEI member. He talked about how the IEI has evolved over the years following its establishment. The guest of honour, Er. P. S. Praveen, gave an inspiring and motivational speech on how to be a step ahead of other B.Tech graduates. H The event ended with the vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Keerthivasan .D, president, IEI student chapter.
